Acupuncture is a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine that has been used for the treatment of pain and disease for an estimated 3000+ years. It is a form of manual medicine where very thin, single-use sterile filiform needles are inserted into acupuncture points to induce changes in the body's physiology. These specific points are located on what Chinese Medicine calls channels or meridians. We now know these meridians are the fascial bands that envelope literally every single part of our body, and take part in thousands of essential physiological processes. When there is a blockage in a meridian due to injury, physical tension, emotional tension, or impairment in blood flow, acupuncture works to release these restrictions and initiate the body's own healing mechanisms to bring it back to a state of homeostasis.
Acupuncture can be used for many things. From allergies, anxiety and IBS, to obesity, nausea, and muscular pain. A review and analysis of reports on controlled clinical trials of acupuncture published by The Australian Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine Association lists all conditions that acupuncture has been proven to be an effective treatment for. You can view that document here. It is our priority at Fourth Meridian to ensure you get the best possible treatment- one which fuses thousands of years of empirical data with modern research findings.
